The perfect coat

We are now in the midst of winter and it’s only gonna get colder. In the scenario that you are freezing off somewhere because you don’t own a good coat (even after all the times you’ve contemplated on buying one but not doing so at the very last minute because you didn’t want to spend that much) you need to get yourself one!

A good coat is the epitomy of investment pieces – vital in your wardrobe, that not only keeps you warm and cosy but looks amazing and makes your outfit. What does the perfect coat do then? Before purchasing you have to think of a few key points and characteristics.

1. Length

In my opinion, it needs to be long-ish. I used to hate long coats as a teen, thought they made me look old and weird, but have grown to love them. Not only they’re chic but they keep your little legs warm as well and protect you from the wind all over.

2. Colour

Depending on the price and your budget, this would vary. Of course you need a good black coat, so if you don’t have one that would be the smart choice. If you already own one, beige, cream or even white would be next. Or even leopard print – I have yet to find a good leopard print coat! For the most adventurous of shoppers, bright blues/greens/reds would look amazing and of course pastels (either in pink or blue or even mint and yellow!)

3. Fit

That’s down to you, the occasion and your personal style. Looser fitting coats could appear more casual, whereas a straight or A-line coat with or without a belt is more versatile.

4. Material

Wool, wool-blend or silk is ideal but of course if your budget doesn’t allow this, you could opt for a synthetic fibre blend. Also shearling with suede looks super nice as well, in which case the price goes up as well.
