Can an at-home smoothing treatment work well on my frizzy hair?
I trialled this hair smoothing by O’WOW Kit that promises to give you a “keratin” treatment at home that lasts for 2 months and it’s only £50 (currently on offer)!!
In-salon keratin treatments work well for me and my frizzy wavy hair, but while that meant smooth, super-straight hair for four months, it also meant I lost the volume I liked in my hair. I also realised the hair damaging chemicals (like formaldehyde, a known human carcinogen) and price (£200 per treatment) weren’t worth it, so with O’wow I had nothing to lose!
O’wow Kit process
The process is simple: you apply the product on clean hair, leave on for one whole hour (not less!), wash out with just water very well. Then dry completely with a hairdryer and straighten with a straightening iron on 220 degrees. I realised my iron would only go up to 180, so keep this in mind! Not sure it affected the results as it was certainly quite hot!
The process is super easy, it, of course, takes some time especially with long hair. For my hair, I applied the whole bottle. I have to say the scent was quite strong and I’d do it near a window next time as I was coughing a bit.
It took about 30 minutes to apply the solution all over my hair, brush through it and apply the rest of it.
Then you leave it on for 60 minutes, wash very well just using water and use your iron.
Wait for 48 hours before getting your hair wet, so no hair washing, no exercising, no hair tying.

O’wow Kit Results
After the first time of washing my hair, I realised that instructions mention you should dry your hair with a hairdryer.
Before After After
Verdict
This is a great product that has given me results comparable to an in-salon treatment. My hair still goes frizzy but less than normal. The instructions mention that after hair washing you need to dry with a hair drier to activate the product. I tried both ways and it’s true that using the hairdryer works better. For the summer I never use a hairdryer so it might not be so practical.
It’s now been almost 3 months and although my hair isn’t as frizz-free, which is normal. Overall I’m very happy with the results and would recommend this for an easy at-home keratin treatment, that’s not particularly expensive. If you want super straight hair that might not be ideal but it’s a great thing to try, that’s suitable for all hair types!

Well I bought the owow product. I do not know what I did wrong because my hair ended up dry as straw, I’ve emailed the company but no one has bothered to get back to me.
I’m greatly disappointed as I wanted smooth soft hair as was shown. Like I said it was horribly dry and straw Like!
Hmm were you using deep conditioners/masks after the treatment? I didn’t have any issues but also every time I wash my hair I use a thick mask!
