Nazanin is the person behind her namesake brand, a beautiful mix of prints and lightweight fabrics. Think what you’d wear sipping cocktails in Ibiza, roaming the scenic streets of the Amalfi coast, and watching the sunset in Mykonos. Her latest collection named ‘Natural Desires’ is elegant and well made, using high-quality materials; chic prints seen in maxi kaftans, neon, and seashell belts and sarongs.
Nazanin studied fashion and textiles at Central Saint Martins and Royal College of Art before heading to Paris to work with some major brands! I had the chance to meet Nazanin and wanted to discuss her brand, her favourite beauty and more, read on!
Fani: “How has your previous experience helped you with your own brand?”
Nazanin: My first experience was at Alexander McQueen which was an incredible lesson in my appreciation of sophisticated fabric and colour. I then spent several years in Paris working for luxury houses such as Christian Lacroix, Kenzo, and Céline.
Whilst I learned a great deal about creativity in London, working for these Parisian fashion houses taught me all about luxury. I designed the prints and textiles across accessories and womenswear and during this period I was also responsible for production. This meant many trips to the suppliers in Italy, which gave me a very broad perspective on the design process.
I had always wanted to launch my own brand and after spending time learning my craft in both London and Paris I felt ready to start a business. I am also working as a consultant for brands ranging from LVMH to Levis as well as running my own business.
What’s your biggest source of inspiration?
I am inspired by everyday life – art, architecture, movies, old magazines, books, nature and of course flea markets – they’re a great source of inspiration. I love travelling and discovering different cultures and places.
How would you describe your brand in 3 words?
Effortless, chic and cool.
What’s the one thing you always take with you when travelling? Anything from beauty to clothing.
Our latest cotton/silk cabana dress, as it’s super light and can be worn over a bikini at the beach or in the evening over a silk slip dress, to take you from the beach to sunset cocktails.
What’s your favourite part of the design process?
I enjoy the full process, although I love creating the designs and seeing them come together the most. The design and development process can be a long one, so it is exciting to see the drawings and prints come to life when the first samples arrive.
The biggest challenge you’ve faced so far while having your own brand?
Running a business each day has new challenges, from customer service to production and quality control. I believe it’s important to learn every aspect of the business yourself before hiring a team as you have a better understanding of each role.
What’s your style inspiration?
I am always inspired by my mother’s wardrobe from the 70’s. It was effortless and chic.
If you could only use 3 beauty products, what would they be?
When it comes to beauty, I’m kind of high and low maintenance. I like beauty products by Sisley, especially the Black Rose Mask. Also, Charlotte Tilbury’s Wonder Glow and Chanel’s hydrating lipstick.
What’s your dream shopping destination?
Paris or Tokyo.
