Violence, guns, war, blood and bruises are things everyone, or at least most of us, wishes to avoid. For some people these things can be inspirational, one of them being Dean McDowell. Situated in Northern Ireland this artist combines his knowledge of illustration with traditional painting techniques.
What I find really interesting about his work is the way of depicting sadness and sorrow. Dark, strong hues of nude, red, brown and blue construct surreal images of women who have suffered. As ironic as it may sound the result is beautiful, and a little bit shocking too.
