The super popular Alpha Beta pads by Dr Dennis Gross are now available in a BODY version!!! Pretty cool right? I test them out for a few weeks and here are my thoughts.
This product is a brand new, just launched on 26th of December exclusive to SpaceNK and other retails from January! A little bit about the science and the reason behind Dr Gross decided to launch this product.
You might know their super popular Alpha Beta face pads, which actually was the first product they ever produced (it celebrated their 20th anniversary in 2020). Of course, this super-potent peel pad has been loved but many and people often used it on their body. Inspired by this Dr. Dennis Gross are launching the body version.
It’s the same concept and almost the same ingredients as the face pads, with a major difference; much higher acids %. The skin on our body is thicker and can handle stronger acids. It can also be more difficult to tackle pigmentation, bumpy skin and other issues on the body. Personally I definitely take better care of my face than body, so if you’re the same – this is an easy and targeted treatment. Also these are FAR bigger than the face pads and they have a textured side, for a little big of physical exfoliating along the chemical one.
I think this would also be great for anyone struggling with pigmentation on their bodies or annoying ingrown hairs or acne. Also perfect for travelling (eventually!) and for anyone that’s not a big fan of body scrubs.
How to use: they recommend starting with the pad folded, as it comes out of the sachet. Start swiping it over your body and once this side is dry, open it up and use on another body part.
Ingredients of the Dr Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Exfoliating Body Treatment
The key ingredients are glycolic acid (AHA), lactic acid (AHA) that supports the skin and salicylic acid (BHA) that is perfect for sebum regulation and clearing out the pores. So if you suffer from acne or ingrown hairs on the body this will be perfect for you.
There are also enzymes, that are fruit extracts to gently exfoliate as well as bakuchiol. There are a few more acids like phytic acid and linoleic and hydrating ingredients like glycerin, aloe vera, olive oil and squalane.
The clinical studies have shown: immediate and 24-hour hydration, 88% of subjects saw redness and irritation associated with ingrown hairs reduces, 100% showed reduction in body breakouts.
First thoughts Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Body pads
These pads really are massive! They are drenched in product so hold enough to cover your WHOLE body. This is great. I used it everywhere, on both sides of the pad. One side is slightly exfoliating with the criss-cross design. I feel a little tingle but nothing painful – this shouldn’t be painful.
My skin immediately after using the pad, feels soft and clean but not stripped. It’s weird as I’ve never used a tonne of acid on my body, but it’s the same feeling as using acid on your face. I found the best way to use these is after a shower on dry skin. I didn’t apply body cream afterwards as I wanted to see the proper results.
I persisted on a tiny patch of KP (Keratosis pillaris often called chicken skin or strawberry skin). This never really bothered me as it’s such a small size, but I wanted to put the product to the test.
This is SUPER easy to use and even though I love a good body scrub, they are sometime a faff. I found one pad was enough to go over my whole body twice. I focused on legs and arms more, but you can focus on whatever area bothers you the most.
Immediately after the treatment my skin feels smooth but not in the way of an exfoliating scrub, it’s hard to describe but it’s the same feeling I get after using a chemical exfoliator on my face. It feels like there is *something* left on the skin, which isn’t a bad thing. You want all this goodness to do its work after you’re done with the pad.
After repeated use
I tried it twice a week as instructed by the company. Their clinical tests have shown that in just 3 treatments the KP and discolouration is smoother. I definitely noticed that my patch of KP was smoother after 2 times of trying this and I was NOT expecting it! It actually worked super well.
Because I was travelling at the beginning of December I forgot to use these for a week, but still found they worked really well. It’s a bit hard to show the KP on the photo but this below is what it looks like after using the whole box of the pads.
What I don’t like
I find it wasteful as it’s individually wrapped and non-biodegradable — but Dr Gross said they are working on an alternative, maybe a biodegradable version? Because now it’s essentially a single-use wipe, which isn’t great. I’m not gonna comment on the price as it’s a fair price considering the research and clinical trials DDG do before any product goes to market. It is a premium brand after all. That doesn’t mean you need them, you know I don’t promote buying products that you don’t need, but this is truly unique.
What would be great (apart from a more sustainable option) is to get refills of these. The outer box is recyclable.
They are £58 per box of 8 pads, available now on SpaceNK
Will you be trying them?
