Looking your best for your wedding day

Most women dream of their wedding, but even if that’s not you, preparing for your big day is essential. Autumnal weddings are quite popular, imagine a beautiful autumnal day in the Italian coastline. The biggest thing to note is that if you have the budget for a wedding planner, definitely pick one! It will help you feel less stressed all together. From caterers to booking entertainment (like Benny Smyth DJ) it’s all an essential part of your big day.

In terms of beauty, stress can make your skin break out or look tired but let’s have a look into what to focus on for your big day.

  • SKIN

You’ll want to set up a proper skin routine several months in advance of your big day. Including an exfoliator in your routine is essential. My favourite is the Biologique Recherche P50, which is an acid exfoliating lotion, to remove dead skin cells and always following with a moisturiser that rehydrates and replenishes your skin. And very important, always remember to use an SPF! Not just before your wedding, but in general. I am currently using the Dr Jart Every Sun Day (which looks might have changed in formulation as it’s only available on eBay).

Coming closer to the event, it can be a good option to treat your skin to an organic face mask, but be sure not to leave this too close to the event, as face masks tend to draw out impurities – meaning your skin will need a day or two to settle down. Ideally you would do this the week before the actual wedding, and even combine with a professional facial.

That said, if you do have an emergency spot situation (they tend to come up when you least want them to!), you should definitely apply a spot remover the night before, I like using a few different ones; like the Aesop one, or the Murad and I am currently testing out the new Glossier one, which isn’t available in the UK at the minute.

Of course remember to keep yourself hydrated from the inside out and drink plenty of water! Dehydration is the leading cause of skin issues, particularly in terms of dark circles and dull skin.

  • BODY

We all want to look our best, when walking down the aisle, so getting a good fitness regime in place several months before the event is the best advice here – rather than crash dieting or overdoing it a few weeks prior, as this is when injuries tend to happen.

If you can afford it, getting a PT is worth it – they will show the proper techniques and ways to be your best self not just for the wedding but in general!

  • HAIR + MAKEUP

Pinterest can offer some great inspiration when it comes to wedding hair, so look through these early on, and test them out with your hairdresser well in advance to see what works the best for you.

Remember that you will want to look like yourself in your wedding pictures. Think seeing the pictures 20 years from now. To me natural hair and makeup is the best idea. It will have to be a bit heavier than completely natural makeup of course, so that the makeup shows up on the pictures, and it will have to last all day! But in any case it has to be whatever a classic style is for you. Again testing this well in advance is a good idea.

A good hair mask will ensure you create nourished and hydrated hair. I am currently testing out the Gisou one but even good old plain olive oil will work well. Make sure to do this a couple of days before the wedding though, as you don’t want greasy hair for sure!

In summary, preparation is everything.  Don’t leave it to the last minute, and you’ll be sure to look at your best! Relax and enjoy yourself.
